Community and Tradition…
Rugby isn’t just a sport—it’s a community. In many countries, rugby clubs have their own clubhouses where hosting visiting teams is more than a formality—it’s a tradition. Teams come together after games to share a meal, celebrate standout performances with “Player of the Match” awards, and spend time getting to know each other. These moments build friendships and embody the unique spirit of rugby, where camaraderie and respect extend far beyond the field.
At Mother Lode Rugby, we aim to carry on that tradition. While we may not have a clubhouse, our home game hosting days are our way of embracing this community spirit. This season, we’re excited to welcome Marin, Gridley, and Carmichael on January 11th for a day of youth rugby action at Ponderosa High School. Think of it as a mini tournament, where the competition on the field is matched by the fun and camaraderie off it.
Volunteers Needed for Home Hosting
To make events like this successful, we need your help! Volunteers are essential to providing a warm and organized experience for players, families, and visiting teams. Here are the roles we’re looking to fill:
- Food Prep and Serving: Help organize and serve meals to players and coaches.
- Field Marshal: Assist with keeping the event running smoothly and ensuring field-side safety.
- Line Judge: Support referees by running the sidelines during games.
- Check-In: Greet visiting teams and help coordinate logistics upon arrival.
- Snack Bar: Manage sales and keep everyone fueled throughout the day.
Team parents will be reaching out soon to gather volunteers from each team. Your participation makes a huge difference and helps us maintain the strong tradition of hospitality that rugby is known for.
Rugby Traditions to Watch For
If you’re new to the club, here are a couple of rugby traditions you won’t want to miss:
- “Player of the Match” Awards: After games, outstanding players are recognized and celebrated by the opposing team—another way rugby builds confidence and camaraderie.
- “Shoot the Boot”: Whenever a player scores their first try of the year, they celebrate with this fun rite of passage.
We’re looking forward to seeing everyone at Ponderosa High School on January 11th as we host Marin, Gridley, and Carmichael. Let’s show these visiting teams what the Mother Lode Rugby community is all about!
