PostHeaderIcon No Practice TODAY 3/16/2011

Practice is CANCELED TODAY (3/16/2011)

CSD has shut the field down since the water is just sitting there.

There is too much water to play or practice rugby and not enough water to have swim practice.

This FRIDAY rain or shine, JV and Varsity are having a game away at Woodcreek HS: 2551 Woodcreek Oaks Blvd., Roseville, CA – just a FYI.

PostHeaderIcon JH Match Report vs. Dixon

Rugby Family,
It was another exciting and very physical match today for ML vs a very experienced Dixon team.  The ML team dominated in physicality, passion and guts and yet again showed an obvious improvement over their previous game.
ML shocked Dixon in the first half with our power and passion and was ahead 10-7 at half-time, following tries to Finley and Tommy.  Finley’s try, where he took a “quick tap” after a penalty close to the Dixon line and caught them “napping”, was unfortunately “returned with interest” by Dixon in the second half.  Twice, the experienced Dixon outfit took quick-taps and ran past ML players who had simply lost concentration.
Brian again earned a man-of-the-match award, with punishing defence, a very high work-rate and a well-deserved run-away try in the second half.
Weston had a huge game on both offence and defence.  He had numerous block-busting runs and his strong defence had his Dixon opposition making nervous mistakes.  Weston was ML’s other man-of-the-match.
A special mention for Michael D’Anna, who also had his best game of the season on both offense and defence.  He came off the field with a big smile and said “Hey, that was fun!”.
The final score was 34-17.
So what was the difference between the teams?  It all came down to one thing; experience.  Dixon had a few tricks up their sleeves, particularly their ability to quickly see where we were short-handed in defence and exploiting these weaknesses with confident back-line passing.
Again, another impressive and passionate performance from our new MotherLode JH team.  You make us all proud!
